You ride up by Jeep Willys from Pijao and hike 4.5 km through cloud forest —ferns, mosses, tiny orchids— to a sanctuary of centuries-old wax palms at 2,400 masl: Colombia’s national tree and the tallest palm in the world. This is home to the yellow-eared parrot, an at-risk species that found refuge in these mountains. Along the way you’ll greet the children of Escuela La Palmera, where the work of Fundación Frailejones began. On most days, the only visitors are you.
One of the best experiences I've had as a traveler. Unlike other touristic tours, this one gives you a real experience and a chance to interact with the people behind it…
You won't find a more authentic tour of the coffee region!
This was our family's favorite day on our weeklong trip to Colombia!
The perfect way to truly connect with the local culture. They were very punctual and you could tell they are passionate about what they do. I will definitely go back.
